Rosemary Vasquez Tuthill

“My name is Rosemary Vasquez Tuthill -  the daughter of Emigdio Vasquez.  I initially learned about art by observing and working with my father in painting mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pencil art; and later in college with many art classes.  Today, I paint Commissioned Art and original still life, landscape, portraits, murals, and commercial art oil paintings influenced by Old Master’s techniques in a Contemporary style.  And, I started a series of celebrity portraits titled, "Portraits of Influence", which highlights influential political figures, scientists, business people, visionaries, and others that have influenced aspects of society.

My style is much like my father’s but with a feminine touch.  I strive to have different effects for different types of paintings.  For example, my still-life paintings are influenced by David A. Leffel, and my portraits by John Singer Sargent.  I like to paint in convincing detail which sometimes requires painting with a magnifying glass and a paintbrush with just a few bristles.  It is very gratifying to me when people look at my paintings, smile, and seem to immerse themselves in the paintings.

I have displayed my art in many galleries and museums, created portraits from vintage photographs, painted landscapes and cityscapes from my travels, and designed still-life layouts that I painted in my studio.  Often people respond to my paintings by saying, "That's amazing!"“
