This painting is in the "Portraits of Influence" series. Born in Yorba Linda, CA January 9, 1943, Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th President of the United States.
In one of his speeches, Nixon mentioned his Cocker Spaniel named Checkers. As president, Nixon had many accomplishments including domestically he addressed school desegregation, established sex-discrimination guidelines to all federal contracts, created the Environmental Protection Agency, ended the draft, and others. His Foreign Affairs achievements include the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty, first President to visit China, and he disengaged the United States from Vietnam with the signing of the Paris Peace Accords. Richard Nixon died April 22, 1994 in New York City. His checkered tie plays to the Checkers speech.
