Vasquez Family of Artists from Orange County, California

Emigdio Vasquez is recognized as a pioneering Chicano artist who was born in Jerome, Arizona and lived and painted in North Orange County, California.  His works include street scenes, portraits, still life images, murals, and more.  His painting style reflects his studies of the Old Masters with his use of lighting, shadows, layers, and layout.

He was quoted as saying, “I consider myself a social realist painter because I like to paint the world that I perceive around me - an environment constructed of human and urban experiences of working class people.  Through my art, I want to convey a powerful sense of the human struggle for dignity within the urban experience of 20th Century America."

Rosemary Vasquez Tuthill is the daughter of Emigdio Vasquez.  She learned her art by observing and working with her father in painting mediums including oil, acrylic, water color, and pencil art; and in college with many art classes.  She paints original still life, landscape, portraits, and commercial art paintings influenced by Old Masters techniques in a Contemporary style.

Rosemary has displayed her art in galleries, created portraits from vintage photographs, and designed still-life layouts in her studio.
